General Information:-
Year of Establishment 1997-98
The total built up area of the department is about 1000 sq. feet. Consist of one testing room and laboratory, five cubicals, Cabin for the head of the Department and Faculty Members. A Laboratory is well equipped with latest psychological instruments and different psychological tests. The department runs counseling centre to deal with problems and for the educational guidance for the college students .The Department has glorious history of result in the college. Students of the Department graduate with flying colours and join various PG courses.
Every year department organizes various student based curricular activities such as poster exhibition, essay competition, project presentations and students handbook of research papers. In the year of 2010-11 the department had organized a university level one day students level workshop on “Communicative Skills in Personality Development”. In September 2012 we published the students research hand-book ‘Manorang 2012’ which consist of 25 essays regarding Psychosocial issues, Mental health and various Psychotherapies.

BA Psychology

Programme outcomes

This course aims at enriching the minds of students and it has aims to develop a holistic and multidimensional understanding of the topics. It attempts to approach new areas of learning, develop competencies in the students thereby opening various avenues for self-discovery, academic understanding and employment. Students would be encouraged to develop an understanding of real life issues and participate in the programs and practices in the social context. Use of ICT and mass media and web based sources are highly useful to make the teaching-learning process interactive and interesting.

After completing BA in Psychology, students are acquainted with the following skills and knowledge .

  1. Knowledge outcomes :
  2. To learn about the philosophical foundations, goals and scope of Psychology
  3. To develop an understanding about the relationship between paradigms of science and   methods of qualitative inquiry.
  4. To understand basic procedures of using qualitative methodology and Psychological tests  in    day to day life.
  5. To get knowledge about personality, intelligence and emotional aspects.
  6. To understand the nature and causes of abnormal behaviors’ and the procedures to overcome the same.

 DSC-PSY– 1A: Foundations of Psychology

After the completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. a) Understand the basic psychological processes and their applications in day to day life.
  2. b) Develop the ability to evaluate cognitive processes, learning and memory of an individual.
  3. c) Understand the importance of motivation and emotion of the individual.
  4. d) Understand the personality and intelligence of the individuals by developing their psychological processes and abstract potentials.

  PSYCHOLOGY OF ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR-I  (S1)

Learning Outcomes: After the completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Acquire the knowledge about the symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and causes of various psychological disorders
  2. Examine multiple probable causes and correlates of behaviour.
  3. Understand critiques, limitations, and implications of diagnosis and classification of psychological diseases.
  4. Create awareness about mental health problems in society.

HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY (G2)

1: Understand health psychology and arrive at the introduction to the role of psychology in health.

    PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING (THEORY) + (1) TESTING PROJECT (S3)

    After completing the course, student should be able to:

    1: Describe the concept of psychological test, reliability, validity and norms.

    2: Classify and categorize psychological tests, reliability- validity-norms types.

    3: Identify the reliability and validity of psychological tests,

    4: Evaluate the types of norms.

    5: Conduct testing project for behaviour analysis.

    EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY (THEORY) + (1) RESEARCH PROJECT (S3)

    After completing the course, student should be able to:

    1: Describe the process of experiment in psychology, concept of psychophysics.

    2: Explain problem, hypothesis, variables, sampling in experiment.

    3: Identify and classify the learning system, methods of psychophysics.

    4: Compare laws of psychophysics, types of hypotheses.

    5: Conduct research based project.

    S4: PSYCHOLOGY PRACTICAL: TESTS AND EXPERIMENTS

    Outcomes :

    1. To familiarize the students with the use of elementary statistical techniques,
    2. To give practical experience to the students in administering and scoring psychological tests and interpreting the scores,
    3. To acquaint the students with the basic procedure and design of psychology experiments,
    4. To encourage and guide the students to undertake a small-scale research project.
